-A yellow Star-Mon, 26th of August. At Nikos Goumas, in front of more than 12000 fans, AEK beat PAOK of Macedonia by three goals to one. PAOK opened the score on the 50th minute with Vrizas, but then AEK scored 3 goals in 12 minutes (Nikolaidhs 55', Kostis 57', Nikolaidhs 67'). AEK played with: Atmatzidhs, Borbokis, Kasapis, Ntompos, Kostenoglou, Maladenhs, Ketspagia (83' Marcelo), Batista, Kopitsis (46' Kostis), Nikolaidhs
-A yellow Star-Mon, 19th of August. At Nikos Goumas, in front of 10000 fans, AEK beat Seville of Spain 3-2. AEK had an excellent first 20 minutes when two goals were scored (9' Nikolaidhs, 16' Batista). The third goal was scored by Ketspagia on the 76th minute, to make it 3-0 to AEK. This game was part of the Vasilhs Tsartas transfer to the Spanish club.

-A yellow Star-Sun, 11th of August. At Karaiskakh Stadium, in front of more 15000 spectators (AEK fans in the majority), AEK won the Super Cup of 1996 (an equivalent to Charity shield) by beating Panathinaikos 9-8 on penalties. This is the second time AEK has won the Super Cup (previous one in 1989, against Panathinaikos again on penalties). The game was going towards extra time (no golden rule this year) when AEK scored on the 89th minute with Savevski (after A pass from Marcelo). In the next few minutes AEK lost Vlachos with a red card (when is he going to get some brain cells?) and Panathinaikos equalised on the 92nd minute with Alexoudhs (who took advantage of the usual AEK defence lapse of concentration). The extra time saw AEK missing the chances but no further goals from either side. AEK overall was not happy with the ref Latsios. Then the penalties:

-A yellow Star-Wed, 7th of August. At Nikos Goumas, in front of 5000 fans, AEK beat Apollon Athinon by 1-0. The AEK scorer was Kostis on the 87th minute with a disputable penalty. The penalty was awarded after Tatsis challenged Daniel Batista inside the penalty area. The team: Atmatzidis, Borbokis, Kasapis, Manolas (46' Kostenoglou), Ntompos (80' Macharidis), Kostis, Ketspagia (75' Koutoulas), Savevski (46' Kopitsis), Maladenhs (46' Vlachos), Marcelo (46' Batista), Nikolaidis.
-A yellow Star-Mon, 5th of August. At Nikos Goumas, in front of more than 5000 fans, AEK beat Skoda Xanthi 5-0 in a friendly pre-season game. The AEK scorers were: Ketspagia (17'), Marcelo (20'), Ketspagia (59'), Nikolaidhs, Ketspagia (79'). -A yellow Star-Tuesday, 23rd of July. AEK beat the German second-division and current German cup-winners team Kaiserlauten with an impressive score of 5-1. AEK played with: Atmatzidis, Borbokis, Kasapis, Ntompos, Kostenoglou (52' Machairidis), Vlachos, Ketspagia (64' Dimitriadis), Savevski (67' Koutoulas), Pavlopoulos, Kostis (61' Kopitsis), Nikolaidis (57; Marchello). The AEK scorers: 6' Kostis (1-0), 19' Nikolaidis (2-0), 35' Savevski (3-0), 59' Kostis (4-1), 66' Kopitsis (5-1).
