Vassilis Tsartas was the scorer with a free-kick while Vassilis Lakis saw the second yellow card at extra time. Mr Chelis refereed as expected, since Olympiakos "should not" lose points. Despite a strong start to the game up to the 20th minute, our team finally lost by 5-0 to Barcelona at Camp Nou (Luis Enrique 21', 30', 59', Rivaldo 55', Gerard 89' πεν). The Italian referee Stephano Braschi determined the height of the score, sending off Michalis Kapsis on the 28th minute with a direct red card for a foul that never existed. AEK performed brilliantly in front of 3,000 passionate supporters and defeated Benetton by 97-89 in extra time, despite being 48-62 down in the 30th minute and 70-78 48" before the end of the last period. Dusan Ivkovic's team was impressive, thrassing easily Near East by 105-69 at OAKA. The two teams were worlds apart and not much can be said about the game. It is worth noting Geert Hammink's 13 points with one 3p (!) as well as Michalis Kakiouzis' return to action after his injury 40 days ago. This was the first time that our team scored over 100 points in home ground for the chamionship after a 112-83 against Dafni in 1992/93. The quarters: 20-19, 51-38, 80-56, 105-69. Toni Savevski stated in today's Press Conference that the game against Bayer Leverkusen will guide the team in tomorrow's tie against Barcelona. Vassilis Tsartas said that the team respect the spaniards, but they want to give some joy to the AEK fans tomorrow, as they are not a priori certain losers, as he said. |

AEK won the first Euroleague playoffs game. Dusan Ivkovic's team tamed Zalgiris Kaunas by 69-60 at OAKA, maintaining the advantage towards the quarter-finals. The crucial issue was the effective defensive game, which limited the Lithuanians to 60 points and left the Americans with no points at all. The highlight was the third quarter when only 7 points were conceded. The quarters: 17-14, 29-31 (half time), 50-38, 69-60.
