• Our volleyball team was defeated by 0-3 (20-25, 14-25, 18-25) to Panathinaikos in "G. Moschos" for the last day of the league. We thus finished 7th and don't have many chances to stand out in the play-offs.

• Toni Savevski stated today that the only goal of the team is a position that will guarantee participation in next year's UEFA Cup.

• After the 16th day of the basketball championship, Stefanov is 9th in assists with 49, 3rd in steals with 32 and 9th in 3p percentage with 42% (29/69), Betts is 7th in 2p percentage with 59% (70/118) and Kutluay is 8th in 3ps with 33.

• AEK lost to Olympiakos by 2-1 in the neutral ground of Heraklion where the 3rd day of ban was spent. Vassilis Tsartas was the scorer with a free-kick while Vassilis Lakis saw the second yellow card at extra time. Mr Chelis refereed as expected, since Olympiakos "should not" lose points. The team: Michailidis, Kopitsis (33' Maladenis), Karagiannis (46' Kapsis), Dellas, Zagorakis, Kola, Petkov, Lakis, Ruiz (75' Konstantinidis), Tsartas, Nikolaidis.

• Petkov, Karagiannis (3rd) and Zagorakis (3rd) were booked.
• During the second and last day of the National Indoor Championship, our athletes had the following performances: 800m Mens: Chatzimarkou 1'53"56 2nd, Long Jump Mens: Kyritsis 7.48 5th.

• The volleyball team was defeated by 1-3 away to Olympiakos in the penultimate day of the championship, in a game which did not feature Jiri Filippov for preventive reasons.

• On the first day of the National Indoor Championship, our athletes had the following performances: 60m Mens: Genovelis 6.77 5th, 60m U-18 Mens: Magos 7.89 2nd. Our Mens team is fifth overall with 11 points.

• Our team was defeated at extra time in Salonica to Heraklis by 82-80, being obviously tired from the midweek game against Benetton. Dusan Ivkovic was happy with the performance of the players and hopes that the team wil recover in time for the return game against the Italians. The quarters: 24-16, 36-28, 51-57, 74-74. The team: Stefanov 10, Hansell, Kikilias, Hammink 4, Chatzis, Kutluay 20, Dikoudis 16, Muursepp 6, Betts 8, Kakiouzis 16.

• The following comprise the squad for the game against Olympiakos on Monday: Atmatsidis, Dellas, Rodrigo, Zagorakis, Maladenis, Tsartas, Nikolaidis, Kopitsis, Zikos, Michailidis, Konstantinidis, Karagiannis, Chiotis, Lakis, Kola, Petkov, Ruiz, Pitos & Kapsis.

• There are doubts over the participation of Ibrahim Kutluay in tomorrow's game against Heraklis in Salonica. The Turkish international suffered an injury in his wrist during Wednesday's game with Benetton. He will follow the team and will try out his hand during the warm-up.
• Atmatsidis and Kostenoglou are on intensive treatment so as to recover from the injuries they picked up in Barcelona and be ready for Monday's game against Olympiakos at Heraklion.
• The Spanish Press were left speechless by the impressive presence of AEK fans in the gigantic Camp Nou. They even stated that at times it felt like the game was happening in Athens.

• Despite a strong start to the game up to the 20th minute, our team finally lost by 5-0 to Barcelona at Camp Nou (Luis Enrique 21', 30', 59', Rivaldo 55', Gerard 89' πεν). The Italian referee Stephano Braschi determined the height of the score, sending off Michalis Kapsis on the 28th minute with a direct red card for a foul that never existed. The team: Atmatsidis, Lakis, Kasapis, Dellas, Kostenoglou (42' Rodrigo), Kapsis (28'), Zikos, Maladenis (35' Zagorakis), Ruiz, Tsartas (75' Petkov), Nikolaidis.

• In addition to Kapsis' red card, Kostenoglou, Atmatsidis & Zikos were booked.
• After the change of venue, Olympiakos decided that their superteam cannot play under floodlights, so Moday's game was brought forward from 17:00 to 15:00 kickoff.
• The results of the other games of the first day of the Euroleague playoffs are as follows: Paf Bologna-Real Madrid 74-68, Kinder Bologna-Olympia Ljubliana 80-79, Olympiakos-TAU Ceramica 72-78.

• AEK performed brilliantly in front of 3,000 passionate supporters and defeated Benetton by 97-89 in extra time, despite being 48-62 down in the 30th minute and 70-78 48" before the end of the last period. Led by the amazing Kutluay and Kakiouzis, the game was equalised 82-82 11" before the end and won in extra time. The periods: 27-20, 36-40, 48-62, 82-82, 97-89. The team: Stefanov 6, Hansell, Kikilias, Hammink 2, Chatzis 9, Kutluay 25, Dikoudis 10, Muursepp 5, Betts 13, Kakiouzis 27.

• In today's Press Conference, Toni Savevski stated: "I won't bet, I won't predict, but I stress that we believe in the impossible", one day before the lost cause (?) return game with Barcelona.
• After the disagreement of Olympiakos, who did not want to play in a city with... AEK fans, the Monday derby was repositioned to Heraklion. We should be grateful they did not select their installation in Renti.

• Dusan Ivkovic called the AEK fans to support the team warmly in tomorrow's (Wednesday 21.30) first quarter-final of the Euroleague playoffs against Benetton Treviso.
• AEK departed in the morning to Barcelona. Petros Stathis commented on the Navas case as follows: "AEK simply made use of the clause in his contract about prolonged injury, and we thus suspended it until the 30th of June 2001. The Argentine will be back in Greece from the 1st of July. The next instalment-March-will be paid to Boca Juniors in June, and the player's 5-year contract will be extended for an extra six months".
• EPAE decided that the game against Olympiakos take place in Aleksandroupoli at 15:00 on Monday.

• PAE AEK announced the suspension of Fernando Navas' contract since last Thursday on grounds of long-term injury, exploiting a relevant clause. According to the officials of the club, the player will sign a new contract in the summer. We hope that this will happen. If such a player is lost like that some people at the club will have many to account for...

• The team is departing to Barcelona tomorrow, comprising of the following players: Atmatsidis, Dellas, Rodrigo, Kostenoglou, Zagorakis, Maladenis, Kostis, Tsartas, Nikolaidis, Kopitsis, Zikos, Michailidis, Kasapis, Konstantinidis, Karagiannis, Chiotis, Lakis, Kola, Petkov, Ruiz, Pitos & Kapsis. Blendar Kola is cup-tied because of his participation in the Champions' League with Panathinaikos.
• After the 19th day of the Championship Nikolaidis is 4th scorer with 10 goals, while Tsartas is 7th with 8.
• After the 20th day of the volleyball Championship Filippov is 2nd in points with 380.3 and 6th in lost services with 57, Aggelidis is 11th in points with 265, Katsanevakis is 8th in blocks with 44.2, Strelau is 8th in lost services with 52 and Amaksopoulos is 1st in defences with 135.
• After the 15th day of the basketball Championship Betts is 8th in 2p percentage with 58% (67/115), Kutluay is 8th in 3ps scored with 30 and Stefanov is 9th in 3ps scored with 29, 10th in assists with 46 and 3rd in steals with 30.

• Fifth victory in a row for AEK in the National Division today in Aleksandroupoli. The hurdle of Ionikos was overcome by 2-0, thus suffering no penalty in the first two days of the home ground ban. Demis Nikolaidis scored both goals (47' and 82'). The team: Atmatsidis, Zagorakis, Kola (79' Maladenis), Kapsis, Dellas, Zikos, Petkov, Kasapis, Ruiz (73' Lakis), Tsartas, Nikolaidis (86' Konstantinidis).

• Kasapis (3rd), Kola and Petkov were booked.
• This was the 800th victory of AEK in the major league.

• Dusan Ivkovic's team was impressive, thrassing easily Near East by 105-69 at OAKA. The two teams were worlds apart and not much can be said about the game. It is worth noting Geert Hammink's 13 points with one 3p (!) as well as Michalis Kakiouzis' return to action after his injury 40 days ago. This was the first time that our team scored over 100 points in home ground for the chamionship after a 112-83 against Dafni in 1992/93. The quarters: 20-19, 51-38, 80-56, 105-69. The team: Stefanov 14, Zisis 3, Hansell 10, Kikilias 2, Hammink 13, Chatzis 11, Kutluay 16, Dikoudis 7, Misiakos 1, Muursepp, Betts 18, Kakiouzis 10.

• The defeat by 1-3 (25-27,22-25,30-28, 24-26) at the hands of Panellinios in G. Moschos put an end to the volleyball team's hopes to finish 6th in the regular period. This was the first time we were beaten at home by the team from Kypseli.

• On the contrary, the ladies continued their string of wins, beating Ilisiakos away by 3-0, thus leading the A-2 division.
• The team left at noon today for Aleksandroupoli, where they will meet Ionikos tomorrow. The team comprises: Atmatsidis, Dellas, Kostenoglou, Zagorakis, Maladenis, Tsartas, Nikolaidis, Kopitsis, Zikos, Mixailidis, Kasapis, Konstantinidis, Karagiannis, Lakis, Kola, Petkov, Ruiz & Kapsis. It is worth noting the absence for the first time of Rodrigo Ramos.

• Despite the fantastic atmosphere created by 30,000 AEK fans, our team was defeated by 0-1 from a Luis Enrique goal on the 41st minute. Very little hope is left for the return leg in Barcelona on the 22nd of February. The team: Atmatsidis, Lakis, Kasapis, Dellas, Kostenoglou, Zikos, Zagorakis, Petkov, Maladenis, Tsartas (56'Ruiz), Nikolaidis (78' Konstantinidis).

• Toni Savevski stated in today's Press Conference that the game against Bayer Leverkusen will guide the team in tomorrow's tie against Barcelona. Vassilis Tsartas said that the team respect the spaniards, but they want to give some joy to the AEK fans tomorrow, as they are not a priori certain losers, as he said.

• Barcelona coach Llorenc Serra Ferrer, stated that his team will try tomorrow to erase Sunday's bad game, while Pepe Guardiola said that they aim to score two goals in N. Gkoumas.
• PAE AEK announces the following to the fans who will travel to Barcelona for the return game: anyone wanting to get a ticket, and have booked one, be it agencies, fan clubs or fans must be at the N. Filadelfeia Stadium on Friday morning at the time to be announced later. After that, the tickets will be made freely available. The tickets must be paid for in full at delivery, as Barcelona requested that the tickets will be cleared out on Tuesday that the team will arrive at the airport. Thus, the last day for tickets will be this coming Monday.

• Barcelona arrived in Athens today for Thursday's game of the UEFA Cup without Overmaars, Dani & Simao who are injured.
• Nikolaidis will play despite his shin injury. On the other hand, Navas has not got over his ankle injury and will continue treatment for a long period of time.

• Demis Nikolaidis'participation in Thursday's game against Barcelona is doubtful because of his shin injury in yesterday's match.
• After the 19th day of the volleyball league Filippov is 2nd in points with 356.8 and 6th in services with 54, Aggelidis is 11th in points with 247.5, Katsanevakisis 8th in blocks with 41.8, Strelau is 11th in blocks with 36.0 and 8th in lost services with 49, while Amaksopoulos is 2nd in defences with 124.
• After the 14th day of the basketball championship, Betts is 9th in 2p percentage with 58% (60/104), Stefanov is 9th in 3p shots with 27, 9th in assist with 42 and 3rd in steals with 30, while Kutluay is 10th with 26 in 7 matches only.
• Michalis Kakiouzis is returning to action in Saturday's game against Near East after his injury in the game against PAOK.

• AEK played well and achieved an important victory in Kesariani against home-side Ethnikos Asteras by 3-0. Milen Petkov, Vassilis Tsartas (penalty) & Demis Nikolaidis scored. After today's result we are only 2 points away from second in the league, Panatinaikos. The team: Atmatsidis, Zagorakis (83' Karagiannis), Kola, Dellas, Kapsis, Zikos, Petkov (73' Kasapis), Maladenis (79' Rodrigo), Ruiz, Tsartas, Nikolaidis.

• Zikos and Maladenis were booked.
• Our opponent in midweek's UEFA Cup tie, Barcelona, lost 4-0 to Racing Sandander.

• Dusan Ivkovic's team beat by 80-86 Makedonikos in Salonica, albeit with difficulty, and remains in the third place of A-1. Vrbica Stefanov was the MVP, with 23 points and 5/5 3p shots. The quarters: 25-25, 40-44, 61-66, 80-86. The team: Stefanov 23, Hansell 6, Kikilias 2, Hammink, Chatzis, Kutluay 18, Dikoudis 12, Muursepp 17, Betts 8.

• Yet another victory for the volleyball ladies, beating Niki Volos by 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-17) thus remaining first in A-2 after the 11th day.

• The mens' volleybal team was defeated in Salonica to PAOK by 0-3 (18-25, 22-25, 21-25). The team: Katsanevakis 5.83, Mpasioukas 3.17, Strelau 5.83, Plikas 2.67, Filippov 15.5, Aggelidis 7;libero: Amaksopoulos.

• In an indoors track day at "Irinis kai Filias" Stadium, our athletes had the following results: 60m U-21: Magos 7.81 (1st), 60m Mens:Genovelis 6.75 (2nd), Long Jump Mens: Kyritsis 7.47m (3rd), 800m Mens: Chatzimarkou 1'53"02 (2nd), Shot Put Mens: Perdios 13.64m (3rd).

• Michalis Kasapis participated in today's workout game and will therefore be included in the team for Sunday's game against Ethnikos Asteras, together with the following: Atmatsidis, Dellas, Rodrigo, Zagorakis, Maladenis, Tsartas, Nikolaidis, Kopitsis, Zikos, Michailidis, Konstantinidis, Karagiannis, Lakis, Kola, Petkov, Ruiz & Kapsis.

• Our team won an important game in Lithuania, beating Zalgiris Kaunas by 71-73, thus securing the ticket to the quarterfinals. Andrew Betts scored 25 and was the MVP, while Dimos Dikoudis was excellent. The quarters: 24-24, 42-41 (half time), 58-51, 71-73. Benetton Treviso awaits for the next series, which is also best-of-three. The team: Stefanov 2, Hansell, Kikilias, Hammink, Chatzis 9, Kutluay 13, Dikoudis 19, Muursepp 5, Betts 25.

• AEK met with Panelefsiniakos in a friendly game for those not given a game against Athinaikos and amateurs and drew 1-1. The goal was scored by Hernan Medina who nonetheless suffered a knee injury just before the end of the game. The team: Michailidis (40' Chiotis), Dellas, Pitos, Medina, Pasios, Karameris, Rodrigo, Petkov (55' Toskas), Kostis, Ruiz, Konstantinidis (55' Belaoras).

• The president of AEK Cornelis Sierhuis submitted today to the Ministry of Sports the proposals of the Club towards the sanitation of footbal in the country.

• Despite trailing to Athinaikos by 0-1 on the 3rd minute, Toni Savevski's team came back and with two goals from Vassilis Tsartas and Akis Zikos beat the Byronas team by 2-1 in front of the boisterous fans who packed themselves in the Aleksandroupoli Stadium. The team: Atmatsidis, Kopitsis (67'Karagiannis), Kola, Kostenoglou, Kapsis, Zagorakis, Zikos, Lakis, Maladenis, Tsartas (90'Rodrigo), Nikolaidis (78' Konstantinidis).

• After the 18th day of the volleyball championship, Filippov is 2nd n the points statistics with 341.3 and 6th in lost services with 52, Aggelidis is 10th in points with 240.5, Katsanevakis is 9th in the blocks stats with 40.0, Strelau is 8th in lost services with 46, and Amaksopoulos is first in defences with 122.
• At the end of the first round of the basketball championship Kakiouzis is 10th in free shots percentages with 81% (35/43), Betts is 9th in 2p shots percentages with 58% (58/100), while Stefanov is 8th in 3p shots with 22, 8th in assists with 40 and 1st in steals with 28.

• Dusan Ivkovic's team suffered their first defeat since 10/12 (thus breaking an 11-0 series in domestic and European competitions) when they had lost from Peristeri, this time at the hands of Marousi by 92-85. The team: Stefanov 12, Kikilias 4, Hammink, Chatzis 9, Kutluay 26, Dikoudis 8, Misiakos 2, Muursepp 7, Betts 17.

• The fans of AEK offered a godlike reception to the football team at Alexandroupoli.

• Yet another vistory for the volleyball team, who beat Olympiada Patron by 3-1 (22-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-18) at G. Moschos, thus remaining level with Panellinios at 6th place 4 days before the end of the regular season. The team: Katsanevakis 16, Mpasioukas 10.5, Strelau 14, Plikas 1, Filippov 20.5, Aggelidis 15; Amaksopoulos libero (88% reception, 8 defences).

• Michalis Kakiouzis restarted training and is expected to return to competitive action against Heraklis in 15 days.
• The football team left to Alexandroupoli. Toni Savevski selected the following team: Atmatsidis, Rodrigo, Kostenoglou, Zagorakis, Maladenis, Kostis, Tsartas, Nikolaidis, Kopitsis, Zikos, Michailidis, Konstantinidis, Karagiannis, Lakis, Kola, Medina, Pitos & Kapsis.
• Barcelona-our opponent for the UEFA Cup-beat Atletic Bilbao by 7-0, maintaining a 17-game unbeaten run.

• Toni Savevski has numerous problems to solve for the game of Monday against Athinaikos in Aleksandroupoli. Kasapis, Kostis and Georgeas are injured, while Petkov, Ruiz and Dellas are not eligible.
• Fernando Navas returned from his leave in Argentina and followed a personal workout programme.

• AEK won the first Euroleague playoffs game. Dusan Ivkovic's team tamed Zalgiris Kaunas by 69-60 at OAKA, maintaining the advantage towards the quarter-finals. The crucial issue was the effective defensive game, which limited the Lithuanians to 60 points and left the Americans with no points at all. The highlight was the third quarter when only 7 points were conceded. The quarters: 17-14, 29-31 (half time), 50-38, 69-60. The team: Stefanov 13, Hansell 1, Kikilias 2, Hammink, Chatzis 4, Kutluay 17, Dikoudis 8, Muursepp 8, Betts 16 .

• The rest of the playoff matches: Paf - Cibona 76-64, Real - Buducnost 91-63, Kinder - Estudiantes 113-70, PAOK - Olympia 75-64, Peristeri - Tau Ceramica 79-81, Olympiakos - Verona 94-92, Barcelona - Benetton 85-86 .
