The Croatian team NK Osijek will be our next opponent for the UEFA cup . The first game it will take place at Osijek (18/10) and the replay in Athens (1/11). Presently (Davor Suker and Goran Vlaovic are two players who started in Osijek) lie 13th in the Croatian championship with one win out of 8 games. For the UEFA cup and in the preliminary round Osijek beat Dynabourg on away goals (1-0,1-2), and for the first round Nova Gorica with two wins (1-0,2-1). |

Two goals by Vasilis Tsartas during extra time (92', 105') AEK managed to go through to the next round of the UEFA cup.Hibernian, desrevedly winners on the night with 3-2 (normal period 2-0) could not react to AEK's superior quality during extra time. The question though is why did it take so long for AEK to illustrate the difference in quality. Around 600 AEK supporters were behind AEK for the full 120 minutes. Scorers for the Hibs: Luna (52',82') and Zitelli (115'). AEK took the lead with a Tsartas penalty on the 4th minute and followed by an individual goal of Lakis (52') . Ionikos reduced the lead on the 79th minute. In front of 18000 spectators, AEK scored twice against Hibernian. After a stalemate of a first half, both goals came in the second half from Vassilis Tsartas (54' penalty) and Demis Nikolaidis (66'). The penalty was awarded to AEK after Georgeas was brought down following a Lakis pass. A magnificent cross from Konstantinidis enabled Demis to score the second goal with a close range header. AEK now travels to Scotland and in the beautiful city of Edinburgh for the second leg on the 27th of September with a comfortable but not completely re-assuring two goal lead. The President of the Amateur AEK Club, Giannis Granitsas stated to Sport FM yesterday about the football ground: "Such contructions do not happen instantly. The stadium is included in the Olympic Games file, but if it is not ready for then another one will take its place. I do not think that it can be repaired to host the Olympics. The best solution currently is for it to be rebuilt as we have presented it in the past". |
