• By putting up an impressive appearance, Dragan Sakota's AEK thrashed Scavolini by 68-89 at Pesaro. Holden, Komazec, Kakiouzis were outstanding with a terrific performance from all players. 50 AEK fans celebrated the first victory of the team in Italy in between 5270 spectators in total. • AEK is through to the third round of the UEFA Cup after beating at home NK Osijek at home by 3-2 and the skin of their teeth. The visitors went 1-0 by with a Rodrigo o/g, they were equalised on the 31st by 1-1 by Vassilis Lakis, then Vassilis Tsartas with a direct foul hit took us 2-1 up on 38'. The Croats equalised 42' into the game with Mitu, only to submit after Sotiris Konstantinidis scored on the 7rth. • Yet another victory for Dragan Sakota's team, which continues heading the table unbeaten after the 5th day, as she beat KAO Dramas easily by 102-72 at OAKA in front of 600 fans. Arijan Komazec was the best, while Kakiouzis, Chatzis, and Dikoudis were also very good. The quarters: 22-21, 45-37, 76-49, 102-72. • After today's win, Dragan Sakota reached 137/268 victorious games and is now 9th in the list of victorious managers in the Greek Basketball history, Thodoros Rodopoulos 10th.

• Unlike the basketball team, the volleyball team met with the forth defeat in four games losing by 3-1 (26-24, 25-23, 16-25, 25-19) at Aris in Salonika. The government will take to the Parliament a special adjustment to the law so that the promise materialises.

• In a friendly at N. Smyrni AEK-mainly fielding subs-drew 1-1 with hosts Panionios. Konstantinidis scored on the 41st while Kostenoglou scored an own-goal on the 68th minute. • A great victory for AEK yesterday, beating TAU Ceramica by 85-82 at extra time. The nail biting encountered was only appreciated by 1000 lucky fans at OAKA. We were behind by 42-57 on the 27th minute but managed to turn the game thanks to-MVP once again-Michalis Kakiouzis and excellent JR Holden. The quarters: 18-15, 32-41, 53-62, 75-75, 85-82 (et). • Nikolaidis and Petkov abandoned today's workout, as they are carrying slight injuries from the game on Sunday, while Lakis and Mielcarski missed training altogether.

• AEK met the first defeat in this year's Championship by 2-0 at Kesariani by locals Ethnikos Asteras. Kontopoulos (52') and Papadimitriou(89') were the scorers. On the 15th minute Tsartas hit the post from the penalty spot, and so did Nikolaidis with a shot on the 39th. This was the first defeat at the hands of Asteras, who had been beaten all three previous times. • Dragan Sakota's AEK triumphed in N. Smyrni thrashing Panionios by 78-97; until yesterday they were the only other team which was unbeaten and topping the league. 350 fans followed the team and cheered the players to victory. Michalis Kakiouzis was the best helped by the good performance of Dimos Ntikoudis, JR Holden. The quarters: 17-30, 38-52,57-75,78-97. • The volleyball team was penalised with 4 days away from home for the incidents of the first day of the Championship against Panathinaikos. In detail: 1) For one bottle thrown against a Panathinaikos player 400.000 drachmas and 1 day. 2) For 3 bottles on the match floor, 200.000 drachmas 3) For damage to the stadium, 400.000 drachmas and 1 day. 4) For the incidents against the visitors fans 600.000 drachmas and 2 days. PAO was also penalised with 4 days for the same events. We are thus facing the following in a neutral venue: Nikaia (24/10), Panellinios (3/11), Orestiada (17/11), Iraklis (1/12).

• Demis Nikolaidis may not play on Sunday's game away to Ethnikos Asteras becasue of a minor knee injury he picked up in the away game to Osijek. Mielcarski will also be absent after an operation to his knee.

• A major step towards the next UEFA Cup round was taken today by our team beating NK Osijek by 2-1 away in the first leg. Thodoris Zagorakis (13'), Demis Nikolaidis (71') scored while the home team got one back on the 72nd with Mario Mijatovic. • With an impressive show our team thrashed by 106-70 Partizan Beograd at OAKA for the 2nd day of Euroleague, watched by 250(...) faithful fans. Arijan Komazec was the outstanding player while Dikoudis, Betts, Holden, Panteliadis, Zisis, Tapoutos, excelled, though noone played bad. The quarters: 34-14, 55-31, 78-51, 106-70. • AEK conquered the National Boxing Championship in the 2nd division. The following got gold: Antypas Arzoumanidis (67 kg), Charalampos Papadopoulos (81kg) and Charis Kontogiorgis (90kg). Giorgos Synetos (75kg) won silver.

Akis Zikos will continue his carrer at AEK after signing today his new 5-year, 200m drachmas per annum contract. His current contract is 32.5m drachmas p.a. Andreas-Vassilis Zikos arrived in Athens in the summer of 1998 from Ksanthi and has played for AEK for 10252' in 119 games, having scored 8 times. He has 13 caps in the Greek National Team.

• Without injured Chiotis, Mielcarski and Rabesandratana, Kostis who are not ready yet, AEK left to Croatia today to face NK Osijek for the second round of the UEFA Cup. • The volleyball championship started with a defeat at home to PAO by 0-3 (22-25, 21-25, 25-27). 1000 AEK and 150 PAO fans filled up 'Georgios Moschos', but Zoran Gajc's players were beaten because of their errors (31/77 of the visitors points were because of errors, mainly lost services. the team: Filippov 18.5 , Plikas 1.33, Athanasiadis 10.5 (1 ace), Lappas 12.33, Bunford 8.33, Roumeliotis 1; libero: Meana (47% reception, 6 defences); subs: Ioannou, Papadakis and Thanos 2 (1 ace) .

• The volleyball team faces punishment as a braindead fan threw a water bottle while a PAO player was serving in the first set, and because in the third set, when we were ahead 11-8, they threw another bottle against the visitors' bench.

• ALPHA SECURES AEK TV RIGHTS! FC AEK was relieved of the imperialistic TV contract signed by Mr Sklavenitis in June! As announced by the Club VP Makis Psomiadis in today's Press Conference, AEK agreed with Alpha for 3 years at the premium of 3.2bn drachmas. Additionally, the station will be advertised on the jersey over these 3 years for an extra 1.5bn.

Blendar Kola (13') (scoring his first official for AEK), Christos Kostis (35'), an own goal(39') and Christos Maladenis (47') made up the score. • FC AEK rejected the contract for the TV rights with Netmed today. The announcement was spartan: "FC AEK announces the rejection of the 12-7-2001 TV rights contract with NETMED HELLAS today, 11-10-2001, because of mishandling of the rights and serious financial reasons, and will turn to the free market to offer these rights." As a result (?) the official site "disappeared" from the internet as soon as the rejection was made known...

• Nikos Chatzis, Michalis Kakiouzis, Dimos Ntikoudis, Christos Tapoutos & Nikos Zisis were invited to the 24-strong squad by the new National Basketball coach, Yannis Ioannidis.

• The AEK volleyball club held a Press Conference today where the main figure was the new coach, Zoran Gajc. He set the targets of the team stating: "This year we are aiming at the first eight. I do not think that Europe is a realistic target. However, in a few years we will be aiming at the top, as it is expected by the management, the history and the fans of AEK.". Juri Filippov and Pablo Meana also had a say, as did the general manager, Manos Makris who asked from the fans to make a strong appearance on the first match of the season on Saturday at home to Panathinaikos (17:00)

The talk about refereeing is justified, but you cannot complain when you effectively field half a foreign player... Yet again Nikos Chatzis and Michalis Kakiouzis were the best. • Dragan Sakota's team won in Aleksandreio, beating Aris by 80-86 and retaining the Championship lead. Michalis Kakiouzis was the best player while Andy Betts was also good. The quarters: 16-16, 34-38, 51-61, 80-86. The team: Holden 13, Zisis 5, Komazec 4, Chatzis 10, Dikoudis 6, Bilba 7, Betts 19, Kakiouzis 22. About 100 fans followed the team away from home and rewarded with the second win in a row at Aleksandreio.

• Demis Nikolaidis' return to the National Team was impressive. Our player scored the second goal at Manchester for the 2-2 draw our team conceded to home team England. Our player, who declined the National Team after the events of the game against Olympiakos in November 1999, returned accepting the invitation of the new coach Otto Rehagel. Michalis Kassapis who also refused to play for the same reasons also returned; Vassilis Lakis and Teo Zagorakis also featured. The latter-who is also the National Team Captain-was injured in the second half and his participation in the Club's game against Ksanthi is at stake.

• Our volleyball team continued the appearances in the tournament organised by Olymiada at Patras with a win over PAOK by 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-14).

• The volleyball team was defeated by Panathinaikos by 2-3 (26-24, 22-25, 25-23, 19-25, 13-15) in the tournament organised by locals Olympiada at Patras. Zoran Gajic used Plikas, Philippov, Roumeliotis, Bumfold, Lappas, Athanasiadis, Chatzikalfas (libero); subs: Thanos, Ioannou.

• The return leg of the UEFA tie against NK Osijek will take place on Tuesday 30 October (19.00), as AEK's request was granted by UEFA.

• The condition of Stathis Kappos is worse than expected as the player will be subjected to knee ligament operation tomorrow, and will return in approximately 2 months. Mielcarski also did not train with groin niggles.
